My biological filter

Memories of My Marine Aquarium Fish - 3/4
Just a records about learning experience marine aquarium from zero

(May 2007)

To improve the filter, I made a wet dry filter, with dimensions P27xL12xT105, the top using a mechanical filter to filtering crude dirt, I've made from PVC so easy to produce a rush of water such as rainwater. The second part dry filter, which is filled with bioball and not submerged in water (not been filled), only passed the rush of water only, with the goal of aerobic bacteria that live here and will neutralize the ammonia and nitrite. Next the third part is a wet filter for the completion of neutralization of ammonia and nitrite. Sump temporary use buckets of 20 liters also borrow from my mom :-p.
Later in the empty space will be filled with bioball.

diy wet dry filter
diy coil denitrator

To neutralize the nitrates, I make a coil denitrator from PVC pipe 3 with 50cm long, wrapped around the inside wall with the coil hose ¼ long as 10m, then section center is filled bioball. water flow of about 10-20 liters per hour, I took the flow from circulation pump and then passed through ventury 1mm. The flow from ventury entered into coil hose ¼ ", then through bioball, next returned to the sump. In theory, the water will become oxygen-poor after through the coil, because the activity of aerobic bacteria, oxygen-poor conditions was used for the anaerobic bacteria live, and will help neutralize the nitrates. Coil denitrator will work fine after 3 months.
It's really working on biological filter this month.
